Lisa works mainly with acrylic paint and mixed media. Her paintings are often process driven rather than aiming for a pre-determined outcome. Pieces usually begin with expressive explorations of memories of places, emotions or the shape of everyday things, using colour and gestural mark-making.
A mindful call and response to initial marks by adding and removing paint, develops layers of visual richness, taking the work in unexpected directions. Some paintings result in recognisable visual forms or have a sense of landscape but in others, the intuitive interpretation of movement, touch or sound, abstracts the obvious.
Curious about individual differences and what makes us ‘tick’ Lisa has studied the psychology of memory to MSc level and increasingly sees her art as an expression of memory, emotion and experience without words getting in the way.
She’s a recent winner of Stratford on Avon Arts Society Gold Award 2024 and The Montpellier Gallery Award for Contemporary Art 2025.
