Mostly an exhibition of paintings with prints. My work has been heavily influenced by developments in the 20th century; I was initially influenced by visiting the first Picasso retrospective at the Tate Gallery, as a student at Birmingham College of Art. The ideas of Picasso and Braque enabled painters to develop work that was not based on the classical ideas of perspective as conceived in the Italian renaissance, which formed the basis of painting for the next 400 years. My own visual language has been formed by the study of artists I admire whose careers developed post 1900. The post-war work of American painters, such as Robert Rauschenberg have been of particular interest to me, in the development of my own work.
