The inspiration for my ceramic work comes from the vitality and the contrasts found in nature, particularly landscapes of different countries I have visited. The rugged terrain, the colours and textures of the photographs I work from, are a joy and yet a challenge to interpret in clay. I try to create 3D paintings with a different view as you turn the pot around. The work is hand-built and all slips, glazes and oxides are applied in layers to create colours and textures. The pots are fired in an electric kiln to 1270c. Many pieces are fired several times with more ceramic material painted on to get the desired effect. The whole process is very labour intensive, and the results unpredictable, which is what keeps me going.
