Workshops are up and running at venues in Warwick, near Alcester and also in Coventry. Workshops are suitable for those who are new to linocut or have some previous experience.
Single colour linocut workshops are run at The Warwick Arms Hotel and two colour reduction linocut workshops are held at Warwick Arms Hotel, The Makers' Space at Sew Me Something and at Warwick Arts Centre. They are all fabulous venues.
For those who wish for a more immersive printing experience I also run two day linocut workshops where we learn how to make layered prints.
All workshops are created to teach you techniques that can be used at home using 'everyday' equipment or without too much expense. Please head to my website - www.alixalmond.com - for the most up to date list of workshop dates, and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
I am a full time artist and split my time between making art and teaching linocut workshops at venues around Warwickshire and Coventry. I am a predominantly self taught printmaker; I began printmaking after attending a workshop in November 2015 at Birmingham Printmakers and the bug was well and truly caught! I create single colour, multi-block and reduction linocut prints. I also create pencil and pencil crayon drawings. My drawings are ‘true to life’ but my linocuts have a more contemporary feel. I enjoy creating images of landscapes, animals and birds and take inspiration from nature. I capture the character and detail of the animals, forgoing background to concentrate on the beauty, patterns and textures that can be found. I have been recently creating landscapes inspired by a trip to Scotland using vibrant colours and modernist influences.
I graduated from Warwick University in 2002 with a BA(QTS) Art Hons. Over the following 17 years I taught in two primary schools before becoming a full time artist.
I had two works exhibited as part of the Coventry Open at the Herbert Art Gallery in 2019 and also had work featured in the 2019 exhibition ‘Project Coventry’ at Holyhead Studios. In 2020, my Dodo print was also been chosen to be part of Compton Verney’s Giant Advent Calendar. I was delighted to be chosen to be part of the Warwickshire Open Studios 21 @ 21 Exhibition at in 2021/early 2022.
I teach linocut workshops across Coventry and Warwickshire and have run artist evenings/talks and workshops for a variety of local art societies and establishments.
I am an active member of Warwickshire Open Studios and am their Schools’ Coordinator, among other roles, as well as exhibiting with them since 2017 as part of their Summer Art Weeks.
