Paula studied Silversmithing at Warwickshire College in Leamington Spa, where she fell in love with the art of jewellery making. After discovering her passion for working with metal, particularly silver, she invested in some tools so she could continue developing her metal smithing skills and working on her creations.
Creativity is Paula’s passion and a little bit of her soul goes into each and every piece. She loves crafting unique pieces of jewellery by hand, and no two pieces will ever be identical due to the processes involved in their creation. Made from recycled solid sterling silver, some items also include semi-precious gemstones, copper, brass or enamels to add colour to the design.
Paula draws inspiration from nature, plants, art, antiques, music, performing arts, and sometimes from her cats, but mostly from the beauty in the materials themselves - coloured gemstones and metals (silver and sometimes copper and brass). From the moment an idea appears in her mind’s eye, the process begins with creative problem solving, considering how the design can be constructed and what materials will be included. The jewellery making process can be challenging, with sawing, soldering, etching, enamelling, stone setting and polishing requiring great skill and patience, but it is immensely satisfying and rewarding when an imagined design becomes a completed piece of jewellery.
All the silver used in Paula Wilkinson Jewellery is purchased in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter, and is produced using 100% recycled silver, equal in quality to unrecycled precious metals but kinder to the environment.
