I discovered clay and its maliability when I went to Bournville School of Arts to complete my A levels and a Foundation year, where I specialised in ceramics. This was where I found my love of clay, what can be done with it, how I could model it but also make more domestic type items. Throw on the wheel, model, stain and paint on it. I always say to other people you can make anything with clay, as long as it will fit in the kiln. The glazing and firing is something I learnt more about when I went to Leicester on the Industrial Design Degree Course. I really learnt so much from those three years and had chances to fire very large electric and gas kilns. Following this, Alcester Pottery was established in the town, and after a gap I joined with three other potters to set up The Pottery at the Jinney Ring in 2007, where I have been a resident potter. This is still going and we have classes, now helping many other people to learn pottery.
