As artist in residence at Whitnash Nursery, Matt has continued his creative offer throughout lockdown to the children through social media postings, delivery of creative boxes of materials and by making films in the new Atelier in his shed at home. The children have been able to send their creative work to Matt through the schools online app and he has been able to respond by making short videos and postings images of his work in the atelier. For the Warwickshire Open Studios summer art weeks he is planning to deliver an online event that the children can get creatively involved with further. Details to follow.
Matt Shaw has been artist in residence at Whitnash Nursery School for over 15 years. His creative role at the school has constantly changed in response to each cohort of children but the foundation to all his work at the school has been to encourage and facilitate the children's creativity across the whole school. In recent years he has been able to develop an Atelier, inspired by the Reggio Emilia Schools approach, in the school where children are able to play, create and explore materials in a open ended, child-led and process driven way alongside Matt as the artist.
