Currently Exhibiting as part of the All About Textiles show at MAC Birmingham. This is a showcase for a group of us as tutors and the courses we run.
I have had a busy few months being part of the Core Collective shows at various Midlands venues and Crafted for You at Worcester City Art Gallery. I also made my television debut appearing on Kirstie's Handmade Christmas in December. I showcased my handmade felt craft and had a wonderful time too. I am hoping for lots more exciting prospects in 2020!
Graduating in 1993 from UCE with a degree in Fashion and Textiles, I pursued a career as a community artist for many years working with a diverse range of groups from one year to a hundred years old.
I formalised all the knowledge I had gained with gaining a PGCE followed by a Masters in Art, Health and Wellbeing. I realised I was and still am fascinated by human interaction and believe we all have our own story to tell. I have a strong belief too that our stories are all interwoven much like the wool fibres I use.
I teach feltmaking at Mac Birmingham as well as other museums, galleries and interactive spaces. Elsewhere I also currently work closely with traumatically bereaved families encouraging them to produce contemplative artwork. Another strand to my work is Penny Jane Designs, an online retailer offering a selection of hand felted luxury homewares and accessories for women.
