Group Exhibition at the Jepshon Gardens Glasshouse Studio - Saturday 28th November - Sunday 6th December 2020
I am a ceramic artist, print maker and art teacher. For my pottery I take photos for inspiration, sketch out my ideas before making the 3 dimensional version in clay. I like to covered my pots in coloured slips and with a burnished surface. Patterns are inspired by natural forms and 1950s wallpaper and fabric designs.
At the moment I have two ceramic ranges on the go: Low fired, slip covered burnished vessels where the patterns are created by smoke-firing resist techniques and high fired stoneware planters also covered with coloured burnished slips but with printed or sgraffito patterns incised into the clay.
My second love is printmaking, I enjoy experimenting with lino, mono, collagraph methods and generally used similar images and patterns to those on my pots.
I also take great delight in passing on knowledge to others and am currently lucky enough to be teaching some great groups of adults. They in turn inform my practice by their own experimentation and the work they produce.
