My ambition as a child was to go to art school. I had a strong hunger for drawing and painting, and studied Graphic Design and Illustration at Newport in South Wales. A lifelong bookworm, I was captivated by how illustrations bring stories to life, and I wanted to do the same.
I am drawn to watercolour, pen and ink, and etching. The vibrant colours of watercolour feel magical. I paint animals and flowers, and record memories of sunny afternoons in gardens—old greenhouses, a cat fast asleep in a wheelbarrow. I focus on the particular rather than the general: snail shells, broken pottery, dried flower heads. Ephemera—an eclectic mix of small, overlooked objects that I find beautiful.
