Brookside Art Shed
Region: Southam
Artform: Ceramics
I hand-build sculptural vessels using black stoneware. I encountered clay as a therapeutic tool for patients, while working as a mental health Occupational Therapist in the NHS. It was during this time that I fell in love with clay, for its therapeutic potential and its expressive possibilities.
Leaving my job allowed me to explore my curiosity in the art form and develop my own artistic process. I combine my interest in form, colour, and drawing into my vessels. I emphasise texture and narrative through layered techniques using engobes, glazes, and mark-making.
My vessels are deeply influenced by the environments I engage with, evoking memories and a sense of place. Through my work, I strive to capture emotions and explore the interplay between the self as both observer and participant in the surroundings.
I aim to develop a harmonious balance between rawness and refinement, inviting contemplation of the connections between people, memory, and the environment.
