Kate began taking photographs at a young age, encouraged by her father who was a gifted amateur photographer. Gardens have always been her passion and her sanctuary, and photographing plants and gardens was a way of capturing the things that inspired her.
After retiring from a career in local government, Kate retrained as a garden designer. Retirement also brought other opportunities to develop her artistic creativity. She began painting in watercolour with the plants she loves as her focus. Through changing personal circumstances, spending time in her own garden became increasingly important to her, and she returned to photography. Opportunities offered by the WCC ACL course “Landart photography using a Smartphone” have helped her to channel her interest, and gain greater understanding and skill in this artform. She uses a macro lens and editing tools to create her art photographs. She is now also beginning to experiment with abstraction in her painting.
