Workshops for 2020:
Please check my website - link below - for updates about when workshops will be starting again - dates available from late August 2020.
I run linocut workshops at a variety of different venues in Warwickshire - please see the workshop tab to find out more! Here you can learn a variety of linocut techniques from single colour prints to reduction linocut and multi-block prints using techniques that can be used at home without an expensive printing press!
Alleged grown up *cough*, hoomin mummy to two terrible terriers and wife to Northern Dave, runner, mountain climber, walker, cake eater, coffee drinker, lino cutter, drawer.
Most happy when found outdoors; nature lover.
I have been making art for as long as I can remember - although my focus has shifted from sewing machine embroidery and sculptural paper pieces (my focus during my A levels and degree work - I completed a BA(QTS) Arts Hons degree at Warwick University) - to drawing and linocut. I have been lino-cutting and printing since November 2015 after I attended a course at Birmingham Printmakers. Since then I have been self-taught, as well as attending another course at the Herbert Art Gallery in Coventry.
After a change in career - I had been a primary school teacher, and for the last seven years an Assistant Headteacher in Solihull, I am currently a full time artist, as well as teaching linocut workshops. Please see www.alixalmond.com for more information.
The ethos behind my printing is to try and be as environmentally friendly as possible with the processes I use. To print I use a linseed oil based ink which can be cleaned up without the need for solvents.
I enjoy creating both monoprint and reduction linocuts (multi layered and multi coloured prints also known as a 'suicide print' as there is no going back once you have started the next layer!). My print studio is either my kitchen or back room, printing with my trusty metal spoon!
You can read all about the processes behind creating my prints in my online blog.
I am also a founder member of Coventry Printmakers - we promote 'traditional' printmakers and printmaking events in and around Coventry and organised our first exhibition in Coventry in 2019 involving the work of 27 Coventry and Warwickshire printmakers including several Warwickshire Open Studios members.
