7 Wendy Campbell-Briggs at Art in Wharf Street

Artform: Mixed media
A group exhibition in a light filled gallery space, set in a beautiful garden offering a wide array of highly individual work from each artist.
I work mainly in porcelain and I investigate the idea of collecting and collections, linking historic and contemporary practice. My aim is to create visually engaging art work which conveys a message about our natural world and our impact on it, especially species loss. As a metaphor for this loss I use lachrymatories, otherwise known as tear bottles, first used during the Roman period to collect the tears of mourners.
The start of my artistic process is normally a found object, often discovered during walks, particularly along a beach. Our shorelines are a deposit of beautiful and intriguing yet disparate objects, both natural and man-made, left for a brief time for us to explore. Researching this treasure is an enjoyable part of my practice and some items can be found in the finished piece.
