I am a textile artist and author. I create machine embroidery on a sewing or embroidery machine. My work ranges from realistic thread painting to abstract mixed media.
The experimental side of my work is where the unexpected happens. Abstract pieces transform into jewellery; the stitches become preserved in resin. There are happy accidents, discoveries and the occasional tantrum because embroidery has a life of its own.
I create what the spirit moves me to make, so my subject matter or materials used changes with each piece. I might stitch a landscape or animal from a reference photo, because at that moment I need the challenge of capturing realism. Another time, I could wander into my imaginary world, creating characters with their own stories and personalities. Alongside my two dimensional work, I also create fantasy dolls, clothing and decorating them to bring their narratives to life. I’m driven by the pleasure of seeing a story take shape through thread.
