In my years as a wood turner I have produced a great many bowls and vases. My ambition is to produce the perfect one but, despite having been influenced by some of the world’s finest turners I can’t help feeling that this ambition is still unfulfilled. Some pieces come close and you may ask what else needs to be done. Well, I select the best timber, I try to achieve the best possible finish, I display the grain to best effect and I create to most pleasing profile. One day, maybe at this year’s exhibition, all these things will come together. In the meantime I derive enormous pleasure from my journey to perfection as, indeed I hope you will derive pleasure from the pieces you see on display this year. And remember that 18 other artists and makers will be at Alscot this year so there really will be something for everyone. I look forward to seeing you.
