Artform: Painting
Ilona studied for her BA and MA in Fine Art at the University of the West of England in Bristol. She grew up in Stratford-upon-Avon and returned to live there after studying.
Her paintings have been used by Stratford Literary Festival for the Autumn 2023 and Spring 2024 festivals. Ilona was also commissioned to design and paint in situ a set of street bollards in Meer Street in Stratford-upon-Avon. The designs capture the beauty of the town. Ilona was also voted Artist of the Year in Stratford-upon-Avon 2023 by ‘Love Stratford-upon-Avon Awards.
Ilona is half Finnish and loves visiting Finland regularly to immerse herself in its vast lakes, forests and glorious birch trees which are such a strong focus in her work. She paints using fluid acrylics as she enjoys creating opportunities for the paint to flow and merge. She embraces the patterns and delicate surprises that occur, as it echoes the intricacies that are found in nature.
