Sophie Wootton Design

A person is seated at a pottery wheel in a light-filled studio, carefully throwing a large vase from a mound of spinning clay. Their hands are steady and focused, shaping the clay as it rises upward into a tall, symmetrical form. Water glistens on the surface as the vessel takes shape beneath their fingers. The studio around them is calm and creative, with pottery tools, trimmed clay scraps, and finished pieces nearby.

Biography

I am a potter who creates hand-thrown functional tableware designed to bring a sense of calm and connection to everyday rituals. Working in stoneware clay, I make pieces with functionality at their heart – designed to be lived with and used every day. I want people to feel the maker’s touch in each cup, bowl, or plate, and in turn, feel a stronger connection to the rituals of eating and gathering.

My glazes draw inspiration from muted, natural palettes, bringing a sense of calm and grounding to the table.

I create my work in my studio in the beautiful Warwickshire countryside, where I handle every stage of the process – from throwing and trimming to glazing and firing. The result is a collection of thoughtfully made, functional ceramics that invite people to slow down and enjoy simple moments through handmade design.
