Exhibition and News
This year brings an exciting new chapter in Leyla’s teaching at The Ceramics Studio. Responding to the frustrations many people experience when learning to throw, she has developed a new structured approach to pottery tuition through Leyla’s Throwing School — a supportive, step-by-step method designed to build real confidence and strong foundations.
Students can now learn through progressive multi-week Throwing Sets or immersive Intensive Throwing Days, combining expert in-person tuition with video support to help makers progress faster and with less frustration. The aim is simple: thoughtful teaching, better habits, and more joyful pottery.
Biography
Leyla Folwell is an artist potter, teacher and founder of Leyla Folwell Ceramics and The Ceramics Studio at Ettington Park. Creating joyful handmade ceramics for everyday ritual and celebration, her work explores peace, gratitude and liberation through clay. Alongside functional tableware and one-off artworks, Leyla’s sculptural practice reflects a fascination with clay’s ancient human story and its quiet ability to hold memory, meaning and connection.
With over twenty years of experience working in clay, Leyla is equally passionate about sharing the restorative and grounding benefits of making. Her work invites moments of pause — whether through a morning cup of tea, a shared meal with loved ones, or the simple pleasure of holding a handmade object.
Leyla is incredibly proud to be sharing this year’s Warwickshire Open Studios with fellow potter and co-founder of The Ceramics Space, Gaye Calleja, alongside a wonderful exhibition of work from the studio members — many of whom began their pottery journey as complete beginners and are now developing exciting personal creative practices of their own.
The studio itself is built on far more than clay. At its heart is a generous, welcoming community — lovingly known as the PotFam — supported by members, volunteers and friends who generously contribute their time, skills and care to help make the space possible. From kiln loading and tea making to practical help behind the scenes, the studio is a true shared effort, grounded in kindness, creativity and community spirit.
