Biography
I am a contemporary landscape and seascape painter based in my home studio in the Worcestershire village of Charlton. My work is an ongoing exploration of expressive colour, layered textures and the emotional resonance of the natural world. Rather than simply capturing a scene, I aim to evoke the atmosphere, movement and memories that a landscape can hold.
Having grown up in rural Worcestershire, I developed a deep connection to the surrounding countryside and its wide open skies. Regular visits to the coast also inspire my work, fuelling my fascination with shifting light, changing weather and the rhythms of the sea. I often begin with sketches made outdoors, which later become the starting point for more intuitive studio paintings.
I work primarily with oils mixed with cold wax medium and with acrylics using textured pastes. Through layering, scraping and mark-making with palette knives and a variety of tools, I build surfaces rich in texture and depth. My process balances experimentation and intuition with careful consideration of composition, tone and colour harmony as each painting gradually evolves.
Visitors to my studio can see a range of finished paintings alongside works in progress and sketchbooks filled with studies made on location. During open studio events I often paint live, giving visitors a glimpse into how my expressive landscapes develop from the first marks to the finished piece.
Alongside my studio practice, I run workshops and tutorials throughout the year, sharing the techniques I use and encouraging others to explore a more intuitive and expressive approach to painting. I also welcome enquiries about bespoke commissions inspired by places that hold personal meaning.
Through my work, I hope to create paintings that invite viewers to pause, reflect and connect with the landscapes they love in their own personal way.
