Hannah Carter-Orton

Natural light photographer and workshop leader photographing in a wildflower meadow, reflecting a relaxed, documentary style inspired by nature and real moments

Media: Photography

Biography

Hannah’s work explores the intimate connection between art, nature, and memory. Using the sustainable techniques of cyanotype and anthotypes, she captures botanical specimens as a way of recording, honouring, and learning from the natural world.

Cyanotypes use light-sensitive iron salts to create distinctive blue-toned images—a process made famous by Anna Atkins in 1843. Anthotypes, by contrast, use pigments extracted from plants and the power of the sun to form delicate, ephemeral prints. Both methods reflect a deep respect for the environment, requiring patience, presence, and a collaboration with nature itself.

With over 20 years’ experience in photography and education, Hannah specialises in both traditional & alternative photography techniques, and conceptual image-making.

You can connect with Hannah through her photography prints & products, joining her photography walks, workshops, one 2 one tuition or via her branding, event and wedding photography.
