Biography
I wheel throw in Scarva Smooth White Porcelain making small bowls and vases. While still on the wheel some are turned and burnished with damp leather to give the smooth surface; others-when dry enough-are sanded creating the rough or smooth surface for glazing.
Dot and I share our rebuilt workshop studio space in a converted old washhouse in the cottage garden.
To me personally throwing is about how I feel; it is a very personal responsive tactile meditational experience. When I sit down with a ball of clay I let the clay intuitively take me on a journey.
My main output is concentrated on small-scale hand held individual pieces, when dry I bisque fire to 1000°c. I then glaze them with two basic glazes, some of my pieces have different colored glass added to the centre this often creates a chemical reaction between the glass and the glazes.
