Biography
Discovery
For many years, while looking through the viewfinder of his camera, Joost Lohman has searched for images that resonate with him aesthetically and emotionally. The process of getting the “perfect” photograph was for him a discovery rather than something he “creates”.
In recent years he has extended his search for exciting images by moving the boundaries of conventional digital image processing, thereby creating a novel technique to make unique abstract images. Watching the effect of his processing tools in real time, his search for the “perfect” image is, again, more a journey of discovery than the execution of a plan.
Every time, this discovery of a new image is a joyous experience which allows access to a new reality. The artist’s own reaction to this reality is reflected in the title of the work. But this is by no means a prescriptive interpretation. On the contrary, the viewer is invited to explore this new world with their own imagination.
