Exhibition and News
Delighted to have a piece, Into the Quiet accepted into the Leamington Open 2026. This is the first piece I have had chosen for this biannual exhibition in The Pump Rooms Gallery after a few years trying. The show is on until 3 May 2026 – there is a stunning selection of work from 47 artists and is really worth a visit. Instagram Post
Biography
Having left university with a degree in Chemistry, becoming an artist was not the most obvious choice, but it was on this career pathway that I worked with colour matching and dyes and gained a fantastic insight into the magic of mixing colours – and how the smallest amount can significantly change a colour. This is fundamental to how I work today.
I am drawn to expressing places I have visited and things I have seen where the light and colour interact to provide beauty – wide expansive skies, seas and landscapes; the hues of nature; reflections in water; textures and layers. I love how colour can be built up and blended from its constituents using a palette knife and large soft brushes. I often start a piece working in acrylics and a lot of water to give a soft primary layer. I then work over this, mainly with oils, as I find they enable me to create depth and levels of colour, with constant blending and mixing of the paint to produce the hue and texture needed.
I am also the lead director of Warwickshire Open Studios. I organise our annual Summer Art Weeks and actively support emerging artists, providing them with opportunities to develop their artistic skills and build confidence on their creative journeys.
