As a portrait artist the challenge of trying to capture the essence of a person or animal is what inspires me to create every day. In almost every case my picture starts with the eyes; if there isn’t life in the eyes then the picture will never truly connect with the viewer. I work in pencils, both graphite and coloured, and acrylic paint on canvas, whilst occasionally dipping my toe in the world of watercolour. I love working in monochrome, focusing on the light and shade of an image in the hope of creating an impactful picture.
I began drawing in 2017 and now display and sell my art at shops and markets throughout Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds. I have successfully exhibited in Banbury and Leamington Spa and have been shortlisted for three National competitions.
I am looking forward to taking part in Open Studios alongside five wonderfully talented artists in this beautiful exhibition space in the village of Bishops Itchington.
