Although I have been interested in art all my life, it is only since retirement that I have been able to devote time to developing my skills. Having started to paint in acrylics, I quickly realised that oils were my preferred medium, and creating still life pictures and landscapes enable me to focus on very fine detail which I find totally absorbing and a means of expression. I enjoy working with rich, intense colour and like to experiment with the play of light on objects.

Painting takes up a fair amount of my time, but I also enjoy working with textiles. A few years ago I completed the City and Guilds textile course online and achieved the Certificate in Level Three Embroidery. I love experimenting with texture, and the spontaneity that working with thread and fabric affords and I have since created several pieces, some of which are quite small but highly decorated with numerous threads. My other love is calligraphy, another skill which requires precision and very fine detail.
