David Jones is currently serving on the Governing Council of the International Academy of Ceramics, where he has been elected to represent the UK, Ireland and Benelux countries.
He is a Fellow of the Crafts Potter Association of the UK.
He was awarded his PhD by Manchester Metropolitan University in 2016. He graduated in Philosophy and Literature (BA Hons.) from Warwick University in 1974.
His academic career involved the teaching and supervision of students for 30 years in the Ceramics Department at the University of Wolverhampton.
He is the author of two books that examine the ideas underpinning ceramic firing:
Raku, Investigations into Fire (1999) (this book became the basis of the exhibition 'Fixing Light, Fixing Fire' that was at the Pump Rooms Gallery, Leamington in 2001)
Firing – Philosophies within contemporary ceramic practice (2007)
His work has been exhibited worldwide and collected by many international patrons and museums.
