Gathering Basket in the vegetable garden

Gathering baskets are one of the oldest styles of baskets known… For centuries they have been used for gathering berries, fruits, mushrooms, and other edibles… Today they can have much the same use, in your garden or on nature walks…

In this workshop you will learn how to weave your very own basket (approx 25-30cm wide/high) to take home. This style is known as frame basketry, as you create your frame work before settling into the flow of weaving up the main of the basket. Your basket will be approximately 25-30cm wide and high (including handle). I will provide the willow hoops to start your basket.

We will be using sustainably grown Somerset willow (grown by those who have been growing and weaving for a few generations and grow wonderful basketry willow).

You will be part of a small group on this workshop. I will teach by demonstrating each step, as many times as needed, and each participant will receive continued support whilst weaving up their own unique basket. You will learn about willow preparation for weaving, basic tool use, and the skills for making a hoop framed basket.
