Tony Prior BA, trained in Bristol in 1979, showing abstract paintings and life drawings, taught by life drawing expert, Graham Bolton RA, who was not only a respected teacher, but a friend.
He taught me:
Never give up,
Don’t worry about mistakes,
Never use a rubber, make changes,
Initially, start all parts of the composition.
His guidance still comes back today:
Priceless comradery, advice learnt,
Subjective, enjoyable, good sense.
I learned about life through life drawing:
Be brave, bold, flexible, adaptable.
He put me straight, friendly, navigate,
Tried and tested, not rejected,
Common sense my recompense.
I owe everything to this diligence,
Turned around an insolent youth,
Who wouldn’t be told, horse broken,
Forgive mistakes, relate, unusual traits,
Everybody’s got them broadly speaking,
Live and learn, adapt, reflect, respect.
