Shakespeare Street Garden Studio
Region: Stratford-upon-Avon
Artform: Ceramics, Collage, Jewellery & silversmithing, Mixed media, Textiles
This tiny garden sanctuary provides a background for my most recent ceramic and textile collages inspired by ‘Landmarks’ of our country, based on my travels of the past year, and a quiet spot for you to see work in progress in my studio.
This year I have spent time exploring the amazing landscape of the Outer Hebrides for the first time as well as revisiting old and new haunts in Yorkshire, Cornwall, and Devon. These very varied landscapes have inspired a range of new work combining textiles, threads, and ceramics – all designed for indoor and outdoor settings. I have been exploring this combination of materials for a few years and find they offer more scope to express the diversity of our amazing and ancient landscapes and civilisations.
I use porcelain and stoneware clays to create sculptural features for the garden and decorative, semi functional, vessels and collages for the home. I use a palette of underglaze colours, sometimes combining clay and cloth to enhance the range of hues.
