Region: Rugby
Artform: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking
I’ve been making and showing work since the late 1970s and, although it has changed considerably in that time, there are two constants: colour and composition. My work is bright (but not always), colourful, and generally figurative – although that may be debatable. I’m predominantly a printmaker who spends far more time drawing than any other art-form, one reason why my studio has close to 170 drawing books. These span many years, and I consider them to be more visual diaries than academic exercises. Over the last 5 years my work has shifted, becoming less figurative, as I search for the simplest ways to describe landscape and seascape. In my search for a motif that allows me to play with shapes, colours and textures (without constantly remaking the same images) the seascape has been influenced by Greek and Roman myth. This is a handy motif that allows me to play to my heart’s content. So please, do come and pay me a visit to see what I’ve been doing over the past few years.
