In this exhibition of paintings in oil and acrylics Julia Essex is exploring the themes of power and poise in both dance and nature. Ballet dancers train their whole lives to achieve power and poise in every gesture, leap, spin and pose and that is what she tries to capture in her paintings. The natural world is also a combination of powerful growth and poised beauty. Paintings include dancers soaring through the air or captured at the moment of perfect balance in a classical pose en pointe as well as paintings showing the power of waves or the poise of a calf standing in a sunlit field.
