I trained at Brighton College, Warwick University and Staffordshire University. My work is inspired by the landscapes of many countries I have visited over the years. The vitality, textures and colours in landscape are a joy, yet challenging to work from. I usually work from photographs and create 3D paintings with a different view as the pot is turned around. The pots are hand built using diverse techniques. I want my work to be organic, earthy and natural. All the surface decorations are applied in several layers using a variety of Japanese and Chinese brushes. To achieve the textures and colours, I use slips, oxides and several glazes to achieve landscape impressions. The pots are fired in an electric kiln to 1270c . Many pots are fired several times to create the desired result, which sometimes I do not get. The whole process is very labour intensive and the results unpredictable, which keeps me going and adds excitement to my practice of ceramics.
