I completed a Fine Art degree 25 years ago but only picked up a paint brush again in 2018. Since then I have become increasingly immersed in my creative practice and now see my painting as an expression of myself and a place where I find my voice.
I am inspired by the natural habitat and am constantly drawn to the placement of the horizon, the line and form of the landscape and the relationship of the sky to the land. The changing seasons often inform my colour palette and the structure of the landscape tends to dictate the composition. Rather than replicating a scene, I use my experience of the environment as a reference and work from memory in the studio. I trust myself to capture the important information in my mind's eye, which allows me an instinctive way of working and an intuitive approach to the composition.
I am exhibiting from my home with nine other artists from various disciplines including textiles, woodturning, ceramics, pottery and metalwork.
