Russell is an abstract painter who takes his inspiration from landscape and a variety of other visual sources. From that starting point he attempts to create something fresh, which retains the spirit of the original source without representing its appearance. His process involves many layers of colour which eventually come together to create paintings that have a calm and contemplative atmosphere. He works from a studio at the bottom of his garden in Stratford-upon-Avon.
