“Beneath & Beyond: The Hidden Landscape”.
Oil paints mixed with cold wax medium is, for me, the perfect medium for exploring the British landscape in an intuitive, semi-abstract way. Building up layer upon layer of paint I then dig, scrape and ’excavate’ back into the depth of paint, revealing the history that lies beneath.
I am intrigued by the narrative that remains after human influence on the land, calling to mind cultures and industries from times past. Delving even further back in time, layers of rocks and minerals and our geological history all provide me with an endless wealth of inspiration.
I am also drawn to landscapes perceived through different weathers and atmospheres, and the sense of memory, mystery and legend that can be evoked. My paintings do not need frames and are ready to hang as they are.
Every “De Terra” necklace is uniquely designed: made from my hand-made and decorated beads, reminiscent of those from antiquity found in ancient tombs and chambers.
