Photography, painting, collage and drawing are all used to explore the subject matter, ranging from architecture to the close-up surfaces of textiles or crumbling walls. The gestures of human expression, the decorative features of birds and the memories of visits to museums and woodland walks are also used as inspiration.
Visual and written resources built up over the years from countless sketch books combine with an immediate and impulsive way of working – responding to a piece as it is made, resulting in a range of exciting and eclectic hand-built ceramics .
Seven years spent living in India have had an enormous influence on the visual characteristics of Judy's work.
