I create ceramics using different forming techniques and styles. Simple shapes have been transformed as a vehicle for self expression. The inspiration comes from the vitality and contrasts of landscapes and nature. All pots are hand built and fired in an electric kiln to 1270c. The glazes are painted in layers using several slips, oxides and glazes. Many of the pots are fired several times with more oxide and glazes added to achieve the desired colours and textures. I try to create 3D paintings with a different view as the pot is turned around. The whole process is very labour intensive, and the results unpredictable, which keeps me going.
I have had several group and solo national exhibitions locally and nationally. I was a lecturer at North East Worcestershire College for many years. At present I work with City and Guilds to monitor Extenal Quality Assurance in Art and Design Creative Techniques at colleges nationally. I am a member of the Royal Birmingham Society of artists.
