Landscape painting is an absorbing experience; an act of chasing a fugitive image around the canvas until an honest impression of the light and mood of a moment in a place is recorded. Whether I'm working in oils or acrylics, it is a reflective, even calming process, working in layers to achieve the effect of weather and light. This year I am exhibiting a series of paintings recording the time, date and compass location of some of the most inspiring places I have experienced in Warwickshire and on my travels. Sometimes I work plain air to establish the image, and take reference photographs to capture the moment, maybe write a few lines in a sketchbook, but the most reliable impressions are held in the memory and my personal connection to a place. I enjoy delivering workshops and 1:2:1 tuition to support others to learn new techniques and develop their own visual language.
