Simon and Marta have been in Studio91A since 1999. Situated amidst a green oasis of trees and shrubs it was once a grain store in the 1900s and has remained unchanged apart from a new roof and north facing skylights. Simon trained at Edinburgh College of Art and has specialised in wooden constructions and clay heads and figures ,fired and cast. Also pastel drawings. He has an abiding interest in the human figure, its structure and anatomy leading to both abstract and figurative work. Marta trained in painting at Coventry University and has been practising for a number of years. A break due to illness prompted her to explore new ways of making .Involvement at the excellent Weavers' House in Coventry and a willingness to use colour in a different form led her to making an installation based on her past. A therapeutic piece if you will. Yet it has gone beyond a single meaning into a complex work referring to early interests in dressmaking, knitting, patchwork and much more.
