I am a photographer and all my work originates from my photographs. However, having pressed the shutter, I like to start being creative with the image. It can take weeks for me to become satisfied with the end result. Sometimes, elements are inserted or removed. Colours are changed or harmonised. A nostalgic feel may be given to a picture by adding multiple layers, like putting a colour wash over a painting. Some images may be sharpened; others softened. Often, traffic signs, rubbish and intrusive people are removed. In addition to all this skilled and time-consuming work on the computer, (the technical term for which is 'fiddling'), some seaside images are enhanced with pebbles and shells collected from the seashore.
During Warwickshire Open Studios I shall be exhibiting old and new local scenes, images from Cuba and around the world, 'floating' panels and individual 'flotos', including classic cars, leaves and slate abstracts.
