Gabrielle Rucinski works with porcelain and glass. Form and textures in plants, grasses and natural surfaces, provide the starting points for her work. The whiteness of porcelain serves as a canvas for plant and grass imagery while its malleability readily responds to making textures and creating organic forms. Coloured oxides are sponged on, rubbed in or applied with brushes or anything that comes to hand which can provide an image or suggestion of imagery. The alchemy of the firing process ensures an indelible combination and translucency. Then there is glass, a mutually complementary material with porcelain? Gabrielle finds a challenge is pursuing this. The challenge continues....
