For as long as I can remember, I have created images of the life around me. My southern African colonial childhood and the vast influence of mixed cultures that I grew up around inform the colours and textures in my work. Over time I have found my interest grow in painting the female form and face, from youthful mademoiselle to the savoir faire of femme fatale. I combine conventional painting techniques with mixed media adding dimension, and interest and thus creating a story about my sitters. I set out to achieve considerably more than likeness and characteristically create memorable paintings over and above their function as portraits.
