30 Nov 2019 - 27 Mar 2020 - Jeff's works are on show at the UHCW Hospital Galleries (corridor on the first floor West Wing of the hospital, opposite Ward 11) as part of UHCW Hospital's Healing Arts Exhibition called EMERGING
Jeff is an amateur artist and self-taught designer-maker. He learned various crafts from an early age and have always been ‘making’ things for as long as he can remember. He likes to combine traditional crafts such as quilling, knitting, crochet and origami to create hybrid pieces. However, the common medium is paper. He uses a variety of them in different colours and preparations.
His relationship with this medium has evolved over the years. Nowadays, he creates what he considers to be visual choreographies or narratives by mixing up colours and textures. Sometimes, he incorporates mark-making techniques used in drawing and painting as complementary elements. Jeff is inspired by memories and nostalgic stories. Paper affords opportunities to express these. Its tactile nature, its lightness and its capacity to retain a physical state (memory), are what draws him to this centuries-old material.
