No surprise that all of this year's planned events have been cancelled - Solo Exhibition at Number 8 in Pershore, Summer Art Weeks with Warwickshire Open Studios and Leamington Art in the Park Festival. All gone, just like that! That's the bad news.
The good news - Warwickshire Open Studios are running Summer Art Weeks From Home, a virtual exhibition all online from 20th June to 5th July.
Number 8 in Pershore have offered some alternative dates in July, but we have to wait and see whether this popular community arts centre will be open by then.
The best bit of good news though is that after several false starts and major disappointment, finally, my first, proper studio should soon become a reality. Early June if we are very lucky. That will mean that I have a dedicated space in which to work, to exhibit and sell from, and to teach some classes. Fingers crossed! Watch this space...
After four inspirational years at Art College, real life caught up with me - family, mortgage, working in the family fashion retail business and finally, teaching. With an architect father and a mother who could turn her hand to anything, creativity was in my blood, so I always found a creative outlet, whether it was organising fashion shows, promotional work, art clubs and numerous different crafts.
Finally, as early retirement approached, I discovered the joys of watercolour while attending an evening class near where I lived in France. I immediately took to these slippery pigments, loving the way they handle, the effects that can happen when you least expect them, those happy accidents that can turn a picture into a painting. Initially drawn to florals, I also love to paint animals and birds and am now experimenting more with landscapes. We are always told not to look into the sun, but I am particularly drawn to big skies, and sunlight, the effects of light through leaves, and those moments when we are slightly blinded yet somehow can see the beauty in things more clearly.
I have been exhibiting with Warwickshire Open Studios since 2014 and this year would have been showing my work, for the first time, at two venues. Sadly it's not to be, but we will be back next year with a bang, to celebrate our 21st birthday! In the meantime, enjoy the virtual Summer Art Weeks here on the website.
