Athina is an independent ceramic artist, Associate Member of the Craft Potters’ Association (CPA).
An educator and organisational behaviour researcher in Higher Education, originally from Athens, Greece, she made Coventry her home in 1992. Transferring her critical analysis and synthesis skills from the academic to the creative arena, in 2014 she decided to follow her long held vision of creating ceramics. She remains true to her exploratory and person-centred values, guided by reflexivity and autonomous learning, as she discovers her creative persona and practice.
Her creations include hand-built and wheel-thrown decorative and functional pottery in stoneware, earthenware and porcelain flax paper clay.
She draws her inspiration from the movement, textures, shapes, colours and memories of seascapes and landscapes. In the “Thalassa” collection, she links recollections and experiences of Mediterranean and Atlantic seascapes fusing the Aegean blue transparency with the St Ives Bay aquamarine reflections. Her “Thyme” collection includes representations of images, scents and textures of the summer heat in the Greek landscape.
Athina aspires to continuously grow and develop as an artist through the exploration and creation of technically sound and aesthetically meaningful work. She is committed to continuous personal and professional development and attends regular ceramics workshops and training.
