My love for the surface and in particular building up layers within my Artwork began when I studied Surface Pattern Design at Swansea Metropolitan University. I was introduced to a plethora of materials and processes - this began with drawing and painting on to paper and cutting the work up, and reattaching. This process would continue several times until the layers built up.
I was recently offered a residency at The Ceramics studio, Warwickshire, where I was introduced to the wonderful world of Ceramics. I immediately set out to attempt to trea the surface of clay in a similar way to paper - drawing on to it mostly. Another exciting discovery was that I could emboss my own textured drawings on to the surface of the clay, make my own coloured clay, and play with sculptural forms.
I was also introduced to paper clay where 25% of the clay is made from paper fibres - perfect!
