Working with clay is a challenge and a delight; the excitement of work transformed in the kiln is exhilarating. Many years ago I did an HND course at Coventry University in Craft Materials, working in metal, resin, fabric and clay. Ceramics was my specialism and I produced a series of very large bowls and plates using porcelain with oxides and lustres, based around the vessels placed in Ancient Egyptian tombs. Work and family then became my focus and I have only recently in my retirement been able to return to work with clay. My recent pieces are based on organic forms, working in porcelain paper clay which allows the bowl to be thin and translucent, or with heavy black clay to create a complete contrast. Experiments with oxides and glazes are my current enthusiasm.
