Claire Seneviratne – Ceramic Artist
BA Hons Ceramics
Selected professional member of the Craft Potters Association.
My work involves many processes and takes 2/3 months form start to finish.
I use porcelain and most frequently throw on my wheel but can also use other techniques.
After various electric kiln firings I then take them outside to be smoke-fired.
This burns through the night. When the work has cooled down it is washed and sanded.
I also create ceramic jewellery and use a lot of gold and platinum lustre and also smoke-fire some pieces.
The jewellery is lightweight and the pendants are all adjustable.
Inspiration comes from many things. Beaches, landscapes, colours and textures.
I love to think that as well as all the fantastic colours we have on Earth we also have them swirling, forming and exploding deep in our Universe. I also love that gold is made from collapsing stars so once, the gold I have used on these vessels did come from the stars!
