I fell in love with ceramics doing some evening courses many years ago, and continued to get my hands into clay whenever I had the opportunity. In the last few years, I’ve had more time to develop my skills, experiment with different techniques and effects, and begin to exhibit.
All of my work is hand built, with a focus on surface decoration. I use combinations of layered clays and slip, scoring, stretching and sgraffito. I usually create the designs on flat slabs, moulding them and constructing the forms when they are leather hard. I glaze minimally.
Many of my designs are inspired by natural patterns, from branching trees, to rocks.
